Personal Missions
For the sake of further enabling my delusion of being a super spy, I’m officially going to start calling all of my personal projects missions.
Mission: Dream Continuity
According to the dream continuity hypothesis dreams are viewed as continuous of waking life.
I realise that most of the dreams I have are strongly influenced by the horror and action movies I enjoy watching. And the continuity hypothesis has got me thinking that perhaps at my current level, having control over my dream self shouldn’t be my goal. But rather, I might find more success in influencing the context of the dream itself by taking advantage of the idea of that continuity hypothesis.
Mission: Inversion Mindset
At the end of everyday I like to reflect on a baseline checklist of items that I think of as necessary for my version of a successful day (ex. I felt in the zone, I had mental clarity, etc.).
There’s a way of thinking, in which you consider the opposite of what you want, and it is known as inversion.
I thought it might be fruitful to try and incorporate that mindset into my baseline checklist, whereby I practice reframing my goals from achievement-oriented to avoidant-oriented, because avoiding pain is a more salient motivator than pursuing pleasure. So now my list includes items like: I avoided an ordinary day, I avoided overlooking time, etc…
Weekly Wind Up
Make a list at the beginning of each week describing what you’re hoping the week to come will look like.

🧨 My Favourite Sparks of Motivation & Inspiration
Happiness as a default state
Happiness is my default state, so rather than chase ways to augment happiness, I might consider focussing on ways to eliminate the things that make me unhappy. “The source of happiness is to try to eliminate sources of unhappiness”

Exercising Willpower
Whenever you go for a workout, you’re not just exercising your body, you’re also exercising your willpower.
Presenting Paradox
I was recently confronted with the opportunity to present something to a group. I’ve never enjoyed presenting, but a common perspective is that we should try to overcome our limitations. I realised that convincing myself to want to overcome the challenge of becoming comfortable with presenting is a paradox, since it would mean me learning to do something that I don’t like, for the sake of me doing the thing that I don’t like even more.
🧠 My Favourite Innovative Ideas of the Month
I spy books for the other senses
I spy books for the other senses. What if you had to use your sense of smell to find specific things on a page.
Mind replication
What if you could replicate the current version of your mind and upload it into a movie context to watch how you’d react in certain situations?
