📚 My Favourite Reads of the Month

The Strawman, the Steelman, and the Gold-Plated Man

🔗 / Étienne’s Substack Post /

Turn other people's arguments into the most interesting version of themselves.

The Thousand Griefs of a Left-Behind Place

🔗 / Charlie Becker’s Substack Post /

Nothing makes me miss home like that feeling when the crisp “newness” of a hotel room has worn off. On arrival, hotel rooms are immaculate: they smell fresh and everything is clean. Within a day, you’re in an uncanny valley where the room is as lived in as any other room, except it has nothing homey in it. …

The Dark Side of Joyful Spaces

💪🏽 My Favourite Lifestyle Changes of the Month

Writing vs Editing Mode

Choosing between writer vs editor mode during any given writing session has been a major speed hack for me.

Handwriting 1st drafts curtails my instinct to fiddle with what's already down on paper.

Writer mode: unfiltered written thoughts.

Editor mode: organized digital thoughts.

🤔 My Favourite Realizations of the Month

Attention to Distractions

Replicating Sociopathy

Most types of art can impact my emotions (music, acting, painting, sculpture). But for some reason, dance is one that I rarely resonate with.

What I do think it does for me is it gives me a tiny taste into what it feels like to be a psychopath.

I can objectively see that there is emotion in the movements, but I don’t know how to interpret them.

💭 My Favourite Reflections of the Month

Perhaps all negative energy can be turned into something positive by finding the environment where it can be put to good use.

Life Modes

As with writer vs editor mode, I wonder if there are other areas in my life where we mix up modes that should/could be separated.
